The three people most responsible for raising public awareness of Mount Noorat beyond the local district were Eugene von Guerard, James Bonwick, and Alan Marshall

The painter von Guerard climbed the Mount in 1857 and completed sketches of the crater and views of the surrounding district.  James Bonwick, an author and teacher, also visited in 1857 on an ‘educational tour’.  He wrote and published an account of his tour which included a description of the Mount matching in words von Guerard’s sketches.

Alan Marshall’s best-known novel, I Can Jump Puddles, was first published in 1955

A much-loved account of growing up at Noorat in the early 20th Century and includes wonderful descriptions of trips up Mount Noorat (Mt Turalla in I Can Jump Puddles).  The ‘Alan Marshall Walking Track’ is named in his honour.
